HELP US HELP THEM
The gift of a quality education can have a profound impact. Many students who have graduated from our programs have transitioned into meaningful careers that have transformed not only their lives, but the lives of their families, friends, and the communities in which they work. Support for the Dutton Institute isn’t just about access to education, it’s an opportunity to change someone’s life.
Make a Gift to the Institute
The College of Earth and Mineral Sciences presents more opportunities for learning, innovation, and experience than ever before. In an age of declining public support and rising costs, private philanthropy is essential for sustaining the quality of our programs and for making their benefits available to everyone. In order to accomplish all of our goals, philanthropic support enables us to:
- Create scholarship opportunities for our students to make their continued education affordable,
- Enhance innovation in teaching and learning, and
- Support program development so we can anticipate market needs while remaining fiscally responsible.

Founders’ Scholarship Fund
The Founders’ Scholarship Fund in the John A. Dutton Institute for Teaching and Learning Excellence provides scholarships for undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in or planning to enroll at least part-time in an online academic program offered by the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences through Penn State World Campus.
Scholarships are awarded two times each year, once for the Fall semester and once for the Spring and Summer semesters. Award amounts range between $500-$2,500 depending on number of awardees and available funds and may be renewed provided the recipient continues to meet the conditions of eligibility and funds are available. Awarded candidate(s) are selected by the Founders’ Scholarship Fund committee.
Applicants must be enrolled, or plan to enroll, in an online certificate or degree program offered by the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences through Penn State World Campus as a part- or full-time undergraduate or graduate student. First preference is given to individuals within this pool who are employees of Esri, but all students are encouraged to apply.
